Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) – Information for Parents

At Rivendell, we help our children develop fluency in their timetables to support their maths learning. The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a national assessment for Year 4 pupils, designed to ensure children have a strong grasp of multiplication facts. Although this is not until next year, we think it would be very beneficial to prepare, to enable your children to become more confident and secure in their timetable knowledge. 

What is the MTC?

✅ The MTC is an online test where children answer 25 times tables questions (up to 12 x 12).
✅ They have 6 seconds per question, with a 3-second gap before the next one appears.
✅ The check is designed to be low-pressure and helps identify any gaps in knowledge.
✅ It takes place in June and is completed on a computer or tablet.

How Can You Help at Home?

• Encourage regular practice on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS): https://ttrockstars.com/
• Use quick-fire questions during daily activities (e.g., car journeys, mealtimes).
• Play online games that focus on speed and accuracy.
• Praise and encourage your child to build their confidence!
