Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) – Information for Parents

At Rivendell, we help our children develop fluency in their times tables to support their maths learning. The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a national assessment for Year 4 pupils, designed to ensure children have a strong grasp of multiplication facts.

What is the MTC?

✅ The MTC is an online test where children answer 25 times tables questions (up to 12 x 12).
✅ They have 6 seconds per question, with a 3-second gap before the next one appears.
✅ The check is designed to be low-pressure and helps identify any gaps in knowledge.
✅ It takes place in June and is completed on a computer or tablet.

How Can You Help at Home?

• Use quick-fire questions during daily activities (e.g., car journeys, mealtimes).
• Play online games that focus on speed and accuracy.
• Praise and encourage your child to build their confidence!
