Why Do We Teach British Values?
 

British Values are embedded within the Rivendell and National curriculum and play a key role in developing well-rounded, responsible citizens. By teaching these values, we help pupils to:

✔ Develop a strong moral compass and a sense of responsibility.
✔ Recognise the importance of fairness, justice, and equality.

What Do British Values Look Like in Our School?
 

At Rivendell, British Values are woven into everyday school life. Some examples include:
 

• Democracy – Children have opportunities to share their views through School Council elections, pupil voice activities, and class discussions.
   
• The Rule of Law – We teach the importance of rules and laws through shared behaviour expectations and visits from local authorities such as the police and fire service.
   
• Individual Liberty – Children are encouraged to make choices in a safe and supportive environment, whether through extracurricular activities, enquiry based learning, or independent challenges.
   
• Mutual Respect – We promote respect through collaborative learning, buddy systems, and celebrating kindness and good manners.
   
• Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs – Our curriculum includes RE lessons, cultural celebrations, and visits to places of worship to help children understand and appreciate different religions and worldviews.
