The Importance of Play
At Rivendell, we recognise that play is essential for children's well-being, development, and learning. It is through play that children make sense of the world, build relationships, and develop the skills needed for lifelong success.
Play supports mental health by reducing stress, boosting confidence, and fostering resilience. It also strengthens executive functioning skills, such as problem-solving, self-regulation, collaboration, and adaptability. From EYFS to Year 6, play-based experiences help children become independent thinkers, effective communicators, and engaged learners.
We are committed to making play inclusive and equitable, ensuring that all children, regardless of ability or background, have access to high-quality play experiences. By embedding play throughout our school culture, we empower children to grow into respectful, intrepid, successful, and engaged individuals who are ready to embrace the opportunities of the future.
At Rivendell, our children always come first. We are committed to upholding Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which states that every child has the right to rest, play, and take part in cultural and creative activities.
Play is a vital part of childhood, supporting children’s well-being, learning, and social development.
