At Rivendell Flying High Academy, our school vision for our children is to become kind and courageous citizens. Our children will flourish in an ever-changing world, choosing their pathways and unlocking opportunities for their future. As a result of our carefully constructed and progressive curriculum, children build their cultural capital whilst simultaneously valuing the local context, community and wider world.

We define curriculum as the totality of a child’s experience at Rivendell Flying High Academy including not only what and how each child learns but also the compassionate people they become. Our ambitious curriculum achieves the balance of breadth and depth based on authentic and challenging learning, meaningful experiences and opportunities whilst overcoming barriers.

It has been designed to inspire our children through enquiry and is knowledge rich, teaching substantive, procedural and disciplinary knowledge across all subjects. The curriculum has been carefully sequenced to enable the revisit of knowledge to allow our children to commit learning to long term memory. Our focus on language enables children to confidently articulate their knowledge equipping them to make choices about their future aspirations.

As a consequence of our holistic curriculum, our remarkable children demonstrate the Rivendell school values of respect, intrepidity, success and engagement.

The Rivendell team supported the development of our curriculum vision which is based on the context and needs of our local community. We communicate our vision through the acronym, ‘DEAL’.

Diversity – to teach our children to respect and celebrate the differences in all people, helping them to understand we are all humans despite our differences.

Experiential – providing memorable experiences, that are culturally rich, which will broaden their knowledge of the world today and beyond.

Aspirational – have limitless aspirations for themselves, their peers and the whole Rivendell family.

Language Rich– talk, language, vocabulary and reading drive our curriculum to enable our children to remove barriers to learning, creating confident, articulate learners.
