  • Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training

    Wed 05 Jul 2023

We are delighted to announce that our teacher training provision, delivered in partnership with Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training, has achieved an 'Outstanding' rating in our recent Ofsted inspection.

The inspection, conducted in May 2023, assessed the program's overall effectiveness, the quality of education and training, as well as its leadership and management. The Ofsted report highlighted the overwhelmingly positive experiences of trainees, who actively sought out Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training due to its renowned high-quality training. The inspectors were particularly impressed by the strong culture of ambition, professionalism, and high expectations, all while prioritising the wellbeing of trainees. As one Headteacher said, "There is a really strong culture of ambition, professionalism, and high expectation, but this is all wrapped up by having the well-being of all trainees at heart."

Rivendell School is proud of the partnership we have with Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training and we now encourage parents who might be interested in a Teaching career to ask in school for more information about how to train with us.  Trainee teachers benefit from the fantastic support provided by the dedicated staff at the centre and during their placements in schools.

Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training offers various routes towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), including SCITT (fee-paying and salaried) and assessment-only routes. We are thrilled to announce that 90 trainees have already signed up to begin their journey with us in September this year, across the region.

Chris Wheatley, CEO of Flying High Partnership, echoed the sentiments of the report, expressing great pride in the Outstanding rating. “I am absolutely delighted to have achieved an Ofsted outstanding, recognising our commitment to teacher training across this area and beyond. We know that by having outstanding teacher training across Derbyshire we can attract the high-quality trainees, who through our support will become exceptional teachers within schools across the locality

The 'Outstanding' rating awarded to Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and passion of all those involved in the program. It exemplifies the strong partnership between the training provider, schools, and trainees, all working together to shape the next generation of confident and effective teachers.

  • New Head Teacher appointed to Rivendell Flying High Academy

    Tue 19 Apr 2022

The Flying High Partnership, the multi-academy Trust who were awarded responsibility for the new school on the Rivendell housing development, have announced the appointment of a new Head Teacher.

Mrs Caroline Armstrong brings with her a wealth of experience and says she is already at work alongside the Flying High Partnership team, putting the final touches in place for what she describes as an opportunity of a lifetime.  “I am delighted to be appointed Head Teacher at Rivendell Flying High Academy. Working alongside the team from The Flying High Partnership, we are able to build on our previous experience of creating a successful new school, Hucknall Flying High Academy, which is now thriving and a source of pride for its community.”

Caroline says that it’s a dream come true to be able to shape a new school. “We are working hard to embed best practice and begin this academy’s journey with the highest of standards, both to serve the children and the community of Rivendell. We want children to have the best start in their educational journey and their best interests are at the source of all of our decision making.

“We are currently recruiting staff of the highest calibre and I know that this is going to be an exceptional school from day one.”

Opening its doors in September 2022, the school will fill to 210 pupils as the development grows and in the first year will welcome admission applications for all year groups from Foundation 2 to Year 6, as well as nursery places.

Caroline’s vast experience in various roles within education include Headship and Deputy Head roles. She formerly occupied a leadership role as Deputy at The Flying High Academy, Mansfield, which, under The Flying High Partnership went from being one of the poorest performing primary schools in the county, to becoming the top performing for progress in 2017.

The new build academy, now nearing completion, is set to be handed over to The Flying High Trust during April or May and families will be invited to visit the new academy before children attend in September.

Caroline said, “We have recruited an office manager and we are currently purchasing resources for the academy including IT equipment and furniture.  We want this school to be a beacon of education for this community, with the best facilities and environment for children to learn.  It is so exciting to be able to shape a school to be its best from the first day it opens its doors in state-of-the-art facilities. I am passionate about providing every child with the support they need to succeed in a warm and nurturing environment. Rivendell will be a true community school, where partnership and support for families is at the heart of its ethos.”

Recruiting for staff is currently taking place and further information concerning vacancies, school admissions or community events can be found on the academy’s website page www.rivendellfha.co.uk, Twitter @HighRivendell or Rivendell Flying High Academy Facebook page.

Chris Wheatley is CEO of The Flying High Partnership and said, “We are thrilled with Caroline’s appointment and together we know that Rivendell Flying High Academy will open its doors as a shining example of the impact a good school can have on children and their community. Our philosophy is to make every day count for children and their education, and this is why we will work ceaselessly to create a school the community can be proud of and one which nurtures children to flourish in their education.”

  • New school build is on track at the growing Rivendell development

    Thu 18 Nov 2021

Rivendell Flying High Academy, the new school being built on the Rivendell housing development off the A612 Colwick loop road, is on track to be a school ‘filled with inspiration and possibility’, says the Flying High Partnership’s Operations Manager, Nick Layfield.

Due to welcome its first pupils in September 2022, the building, and the details of the school’s design, are taking shape with The Flying High Partnership, the multi-academy trust responsible for the school, working in partnership with builders, Persimmon Homes.

Nick Layfield, Operations Manager at The Flying High Partnership said, "It has been great to see the development of the school taking shape and running to schedule. But to also to have the opportunity to shape the school environment and grounds to ensure they provide an inspirational and creative learning space for children.

"The school is being designed to make children’s experience and education the best it can possibly be, and we are delighted that it is shaping up to be a school filled with inspiration and possibility for its children, -and as a hub for the new community.”

The school building is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2022, giving families and children who are successful in securing a place, an opportunity to visit ahead of their first term in September 2022.

Nick said, "We want to be able to welcome the community, the families and children who will attend the school, in ahead of their first term to meet staff and to familiarise themselves with the new school. This will allow children to undertake their transmission and induction days in the new building.”

Nick said that whilst building work is underway, families will need to go online for information. "We will be keeping everyone updated in coming months via our website at: rivendellfha.co.uk and on Flying High Partnership Facebook and Twitter. In fact, we have a series of events planned where parents can gather the information they need about the new school. We would welcome contact from families wishing to join the school and look forward to the day we can welcome those families into the new school building.”

Rivendell Flying High Academy will fill to 210 pupils as the development grows and in the first year will welcome admission applications for all year groups from Foundation 2 to Year 6, as well as nursery places.

School places can be applied for via Nottinghamshire County Council admissions page at https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/education/school-admissions/apply-for-a-school-placeand nursery places from Spring 2022 direct to the school.
